Online License Validation
The customer's software or plugin sends the license key to the validation endpoint:
https://domain.com/extensions/licenses/validate
Parameter: license_key.
A valid and active license returns valid: true, with the fields status, expires_at, product, and service_id.
Response statuses
| Response | Meaning | What support should do |
|---|---|---|
valid: true | The license is active and validation succeeded. | No license issue needs to be resolved. |
valid: false, status: unknown | The key was not found. A typo or copied whitespace is the usual cause. | Ask the customer to copy the key directly from the service page and remove spaces. Keys are case insensitive. |
valid: false, status: suspended | The associated service is suspended, usually because of a payment problem. | Direct the customer to their invoices. Validation resumes automatically when the service becomes active again. Escalate payment questions to staff. |
valid: false, status: terminated | The service ended or was cancelled, or the customer is using an old key after regeneration. | If the key was regenerated, use the newest key from the service page or regeneration email. Otherwise escalate to staff. |
valid: false, status: active | The license exists and is active, but validation failed for another reason. Domain binding or expiry are likely causes. | Check whether the product requires an activated domain and compare expires_at in the response. |
Rate limit
Validation requests are limited to 60 per minute per IP. A 429 response means this limit was reached. Wait one minute before retrying. Software that validates more frequently should cache the result for a few minutes.
For products using domain binding, see Domain Binding and Activation Limits.
